Workshop to discuss the findings of the decentralization study

Global Communities, under the USAID-funded Local Government and Infrastructure (LGI) program, conducted a workshop with local government sector stakeholders to present and discuss the findings of the situational analytical study on decentralization entitled “Situational Analysis Study and Development of a Practical Implementation Plan on the Possibilities for a Future More Decentralized/Devolved Palestinian Local Government System.” The situational study provides insight to the current realities and possibilities for a more decentralized Palestinian local government system. It will also contribute to the development of a practical implementation plan suggesting the required steps to move forward to achieve a more decentralized local government system and propose steps to be implemented in the short, medium, and long terms.

The workshop was attended by the Deputy Ministers of the Ministry of Local Government (MoLG) and the Ministry of Agriculture, representatives from additional ministries, civil society representatives, representatives from Palestinian think tanks and universities, and experts in the field. The workshop provided an opportunity to build consensus between sector stakeholders on the main issues addressed in the study and to get their feedback on the implementation plan by suggesting practical steps to move forward to achieve a more decentralized local government system.
